Small businesses across the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Mid-West are facing significant disruption and financial pressure in the wake of Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle, with many now beginning the difficult task of assessing damage and getting back on their feet.

The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) will have advisers on the ground in Exmouth from today 9 April, delivering immediate, practical support to affected operators.

Working closely with the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the SBDC will provide free one-on-one disaster recovery consultations to help business owners understand their next steps, access support, and begin the recovery process.

SBDC Commissioner Saj Abdoolakhan said the focus is on helping businesses move quickly from disruption to recovery.

“Many small businesses are dealing with lost trade, physical damage and ongoing uncertainty — and they need clear, practical support right now,” Mr Abdoolakhan said.

“The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce & Industry has been doing an excellent job in getting a response on the ground as soon as possible and we are here to support them and the local businesses” he added.

“Our advisers are there to provide tailored guidance on what to do next, helping businesses stabilise and rebuild with confidence.”

“Our message to small businesses is simple — you’re not on your own. We’re here, on the ground, and you can turn to us,” Mr Abdoolakhan said.

Exmouth businesses can register for a free disaster recovery consultation.

The SBDC’s Disaster Recovery Checklist is also available to support business owners in assessing impacts, minimising further disruption and planning their return to normal operations.
