Saturday 31 October 2026 is WA Small Business Day, a statewide celebration of the small businesses that support communities and drive the economy across Western Australia.
Western Australia is home to nearly 260,000 small businesses, representing around 97 per cent of all businesses in the state and contributing more than $87 billion to the WA economy each year. Small businesses also employ 35 per cent of the state's private sector workforce.
The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) is proud to support WA Small Business Day, encouraging Western Australians to think small first and choose to shop, dine and do business locally on 31 October and beyond. We encourage all peak bodies and business associations, local governments, elected members and small businesses themselves to celebrate Small Business Day.
How to celebrate WA Small Business Day
For consumers
Make a plan to support a small business on 31 October. Visit a local café or restaurant, book a service with a local tradesperson, buy a gift from an independent retailer, or simply tell a small business owner you appreciate what they do. Show the world you love WA small business and share your support using #SmallbizWA and #WASmallBizDay26.
For small businesses
Celebrate your status as a small business and take part in WA Small Business Day by downloading our free toolkit of social media tiles, a printable poster and an email signature graphic. Use these across your own channels to let your customers know you're part of the movement.
Show us how you're celebrating by tagging @smallbusinesswa and using #SmallbizWA and #WASmallBizDay26 – we'll be sharing our favourites across our channels.
For associations and local governments
Business associations, chambers of commerce and Small Business Friendly Local Governments are encouraged to share the WA Small Business Day toolkit with their members and networks. If you are holding your own WA Small Business Day event, let us know so we can list it on our website.
About WA Small Business Day
WA Small Business Day began as a community movement to celebrate the contribution of small business to Western Australia. The movement was launched in 2018 by Small Business Matters, an independent movement created to celebrate and recognise the contribution small businesses make to Western Australia. The SBDC acknowledges the work of Small Business matters co-founders Nicolle Jenkins and Kitty Prodonovich in establishing WA Small Business Day as an annual event, encouraging consumers to 'shop small, buy local' from Western Australia’s small businesses.
In 2026, the Small Business Development Corporation has taken on the custodianship of WA Small Business Day, continuing the tradition of recognising small business each October. Everyone in the WA small business ecosystem is encouraged to recognise the day in their own way.
